Roots

Roots is a dining table with a solid marble top on a solid-wood base worked in a traditional Portuguese technique. We build the base the old way, working the wood by that method and reinforcing it to carry the stone, then set a solid marble top over it. The top gets the thinned, airplane-wing edge we use across the dining tables, machined from our own programming and then finished by hand, where the hours go.

We lacquer the wood structure in a dark tone so it reads as a single mass under the stone, and we bring the marble to a honed matte. It is a piece we made to move between classic and contemporary rooms, one that puts the wood craft we grew up with against the way we cut stone now.
