Quina Coffee Table
Named for an edge, and built to show one.
Quina is a coffee table carried on marble legs cut from solid slabs, stood upright so they meet at the centre under a round top of smoked tempered glass. Quina is the Portuguese word for an edge, the line where two faces of stone meet, and the legs are cut to show exactly that. The stone does the standing, and the glass lets you keep looking at it.
We shape each leg on the 5-axis machine we program, then finish it by hand in a honed matte, so the edges stay crisp and the faces stay soft to the touch. The glass is smoked to calm the view from above without hiding the stone underneath. It belongs to the same family as the Quina side table and the Quina dining table, the same idea at a different height.
