Punalu
Slate and ebony, the dark corner of the bathroom.
Punalu'u is a freestanding slate washbasin paired with an ebony-leaf veneer cabinet, dark stone set against dark wood. We built it as the deliberate opposite of the white-marble pieces, a quiet, deep corner of the bathroom rather than a bright one. It works as a basin and reads as one dark tone from top to bottom.
We machine the slate basin from a single block, running our own programming, then finish it by hand in a honed matte. The cabinet is built in ebony-leaf veneer to carry the same charcoal tone down to the floor.

Does the Punalu'u need sealing?
Yes. The Punalu'u basin is carved from natural slate, so it should be sealed on installation and resealed periodically to protect the stone from water and staining.

The Punalu'u takes a wall-mounted tap, since the basin keeps a clean stone surface with no deck tap hole.
How does it drain?
Through a waste in the basin that runs down through the ebony-leaf cabinet to the floor outlet.
