Rich

The marble doors were hollowed out so the cabinet would not crush its own legs.
Rich is a tall, narrow cabinet with the line of 1960s furniture, three marble doors over interior compartments and two drawers, standing on slim steel legs. We drew it to organise a small room upward rather than along the wall. To carry three stone doors this high without the cabinet crushing its own legs, we lighten the back of each door so it stays workable.
We build the body in walnut with traditional Portuguese joinery. The doors we machine from our own programming, hollowing the back on the machine to take out the weight, then finish the face by hand in a honed matte. The legs are brushed stainless steel.
